iFix's point-of-sale system was already in daily use across dozens of restaurants and hospitality venues. The legacy codebase made every new feature slower to ship and harder to maintain — but the system could not simply go offline while it was rebuilt.

Live business risk

Every client venue depends on the POS to take orders and process payments. Any downtime during migration means lost sales at the till, not just an inconvenience.

Multi-location complexity

Clients operate across multiple venues with owners, managers, and staff needing different levels of access — inventory, reporting, and permissions all had to stay consistent across locations.

Real-time inventory

Stock levels needed to update in real time as orders came in, across every connected location, without the lag or sync errors common in the previous system.

Legacy technical debt

The existing codebase was slow to extend and difficult to scale. Every new client venue added strain to a system not built for its current scale.

A faster JavaScript runtime for the backend, reducing server response times for the transaction volume a multi-location POS system needs to handle.

A relational database structured for multi-location inventory and role-based access, keeping stock levels and permissions consistent across every connected venue.

Incremental migration

The rebuild moved data and functionality across in stages rather than a single cutover, so the live platform stayed available to every client venue throughout the migration.
